Jefferson Monticello

Waterfront Properties in Columbia, South Carolina, are abundant. Monticello Reservoir, Lake Murray, Lake Wateree, the Almighty, the Congaree River, Saluda River and Wateree River are all ideal reference points for the Midlands of South Carolina. Although considered primarily as recreation areas for outdoor enthusiasts high dollar and real estate investors, its primary function is to generate electricity.
In ancient times, before the popularity of the automobile and roads interstates, rivers have been used for trade and travel by Indians. In fact, Colombia was created and established due to the convergence of Saluda, broader and Congaree Rivers. He later became the state capital Columbia, due to its central location.
The lakes and rivers in Colombia is an important attribute for the housing market here. Riparian Property is one of billions of dollars it has worsened in recent years. Real estate is bought then sold several times, which generally increases with each sale value. But again, the underlying function of these bodies of water for hydroelectric power.
El Tanque Monticello along with the reservoir Parr has the most interesting feature. Lake Monticello, as is commonly known by the locals, is a quiet lake Highway exit 215 in Jenkinsville, SC about 35 minutes from downtown Columbia. Local gossip over the years told me that most of the properties surrounding the lake is agricultural land and farmers have maintained the area and did not succumb to the high dollar real estate opportunities. It was not until early the years of the millennium, the inherited property were sold due to lack of profitability of agricultural land and demand for bank sale in South Carolina.
The 6700-acre Monticello Dam was completed in late 1970 as a turbine pump that operate SCE & G (South Carolina, gas and electricity). It was built to complement the existing reservoir of 4400 acres that Parr has existed since the beginning 1900. These are the two main components of the nuclear installation of pumping and storage later, a lake of 300 hectares of recreation has been built as a public recreation area. Traditional hydro plants should have large amounts water, or create a steady flow of this process. That is unless you have a nuclear plant to pump water to the original source (above the turbines) as Monticello did. Because this process, water levels may rise and fall in extreme measures. Sometimes, as a fall of 5 feet in Monticello and 10 feet in the tank by Parr over 12 hours of generation. Boaters should use extreme caution and be alert to any danger that may arise during this time. Compared to Lake Wateree and Lake Murray, Lake Monticello presents severe restrictions on fishing and boating, and no water skiing or jet-skis. In addition, SCE & G has a band around the lake, so they can preserve natural beauty and prohibiting excavation projects.
Murray Lake is a lake that is also administered by SCE & G. It is 50,000 hectares and 200 feet Dam was once considered as "the biggest dam earthened up" everywhere. Lake Murray was built in 1920 and completed around mid-1930. More recently, dam has improved thanks to a dam "backup" in case of an earthquake or a breach of control. Property on Lake Murray the sea is in high demand and use of lake is much less restricted. You'll find all types of waterfront property, including single-family and multifamily homes and condominiums, and even commercial properties. Is by far the most popular lake in the region and about 20 minutes from downtown Columbia. There are public access points across the lake and navigation, skiing, sailing, diving and fishing is encouraged. There is also a marina Some doors are open and summer is the boat dock over lined. It has been said that Madonna bought a house here from behind.
Lake Wateree is just a different environment. It is operated by Duke Power and was built in the 1920s and is approximately 13,000 hectares. Wateree lake is about 15 minutes off I-77, 25 minutes from I-20 between Charlotte, NC and Columbia Del Norte, SC. There is also a recreational lake, but you will have much less traffic and virtually no social spots. Fishermen find an area of Lake Wateree desirable because has always been a low-traffic area with numerous streams and undeveloped land. It is sometimes forgotten that it is a public lake and feel that you have everything for you. In comparison, it is a mix of Lake Murray and Lake Monticello.
